Finch by Jeff Vandermeer. This OC is basically a cute version of the fungus/spore based creatures called Grey Caps from the book.
Annihilation (First book in the Southern Reach Trilogy) by Jeff Vandermeer. This OC is basically the main character known only as the Biologist who explores an anomalous zone called Area X. There is a film based on the book, but its sooo different that it might as well be it's own thing entirely.
